PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST IN TRAINING
What is a Peer Support Specialist? A Peer Support Specialist In-Training is a paid employee who provides social and emotional support to consumers who are transitioning from an inpatient setting into a community. This individual will be a mentor by providing hope and encouragement, teaching life adjustment skills, and offering peer support through recovery and participation in self help groups. The role of the Peer Support Specialist In-Training is to help the person link to services and supports in the community by teaching wellness management skills. Peer Support Specialists believe that through hope and encouragement, mental health recovery is possible. As a Peer Support Specialist In-Training you will receive support and encouragement from the agency as well as personal growth through the work you will be performing. In addition, this position will engage you in a unique supportive relationship with a peer. Peer Services offers individuals opportunities to work as a vital part of the following programs: Peer Bridger, The Giving Tree Drop-In Center and/or Warm Line.
