November 2011:


Cherene Allen-Caraco, Director of Mecklenburg's PROMISE will be offering a national webinar on
Person-Centeredness and Recovery: Practice Guidance in Behavioral Health Care

Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training is scheduled for the week of November 14-18th. Mecklenburg's PROMISE has been facilitating recovery education since CIT's inception 3 years ago. This week will mark our 14th class!


Peer Academy is scheduled for the week of November 14th-18th for those interested in becoming NC Certified Peer Support Specialists! Mecklenburg's PROMISE is the longest standing peer training program in Mecklenburg County and will be graduating its next class on Friday, November 18th. Please join us in congratulating our newest members of the PSS team.



Mecklenburg's PROMISE will be facilitating the Kate B. Reynolds Integrated Care training for their grantees of behavioral health and primary health integration projects on Thursday, November 17, 2011 in Cary, NC.


Tuesday, November 22, 2011, MP will be presenting at Presbyterian Hospital on recovery and integrating peer support into a hospital setting. This presentation will be facilitated in collaboration with the hospitals FIRST Certified Peer Support Specialist ! Peer Support is thriving in Mecklenburg County and Presbyterian Hospital is paving new ground! More information to come.



December 2011:

By request of Mecklenburg LME and the Provider's Council, Mecklenburg’s PROMISE will be offering a New
community-wide Person-Centered Planning training for adult mental health providers. Stay tuned for more information!



On December 9, 2011, Mecklenburg's PROMISE team members will be available at the Public Defenders Office from 1p-2p to discuss recovery and peer support for people who are involved in the justice system. Recovery is possible and with support, probable.



Mecklenburg's PROMISE, in collaboration with MHA of Central Carolinas, HUGS, Mobile Crisis Team and DBSA will be facilitating Suicide Prevention Awareness trainings during DBSA meetings in December.



January 2012:

By request of Mecklenburg LME and the Provider's Council, Mecklenburg’s PROMISE is now offering a New
community-wide Person-Centered Planning for Recovery training for adult mental health providers. This two day, comprehensive class is facilitated by recovery educators in collaboration with the UM department and provides information and application skills on numerous topics including:

III. Making the Connection between Person-Centeredness and Medical Necessity

V. Crisis Planning and Prevention
a. Crisis vs. Emergency
b. Understanding Behavior
c. Stages of a Crisis

e. Overcoming Barriers
f. Wellness Tools


One two class series will be offered each month on a first come basis. The first class is scheduled for January 31st and February 2nd and is already full. Each series will be held at the Carl Watkins Center for up to 20 participants and is FREE of charge for all IPRS contracted providers.
